Jarrold’s Book Choice - The Little Blue Boat and the Secret of the Broads

The Little Blue Boat and the Secret of the Broads- Phil Johnson

RRP £7.99

Phil Johnson will be well known to many, having worked in local radio and TV for a number of years, but this is his first venture into fiction. The setting is largely that of the Norfolk Broads he loves and the story will give children (it’s recommended for 6-11 year olds) insights into the place and, incidentally, into the importance of water safety. This is a magical story and, as TV presenter Nick Crane says, ‘If you love the outdoors, animals and a cracking good story, this is for you.’ Jarrolds has copies of the book signed by the author, while stocks last - not to mention a limited supply of Able Sea Bear, the teddy featured in the book.

This book and a large selection of titles can be found in our book department on the ground floor.

Jarrold’s Book Choice: Dying Fall by Elly Griffiths

Dying Fall- Elly Griffiths

RRP £16.99

Jarrold price: £12.99

If you haven’t already discovered Elly Griffiths, but like crime novels and thrillers - with the bonus of a local setting - here is the writer for you. To the delight of a growing readership this is the fifth in the series of novels featuring forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway. When not digging up bones or other ancient objects Ruth lectures at the University of North Norfolk and lives happily alone in the north-west Norfolk coastal village of Saltmarsh. The writer’s gift for evoking atmosphere is again deployed to good effect in this latest book (the action this time transferring in large part to the north of England), but - if you’re new to Griffiths and want to start at the beginning - the first book in the series, ‘The Crossing Places’, is also available at Jarrolds, along with the remaining three.

This book and a large selection of titles can be found in our book department on the ground floor.

Jarrold’s Book Choice - Norfolk Rood Screens

Norfolk Rood Screens by Paul Hurst and Jeremy Haselock

RRP £30 Jarrold price £25

Norfolk churches contain more medieval chancel screens than any other English county. Packed with colour illustrations, this handsomely produced new book was a labour of love for the authors as they visited churches around the county to photograph some of its best-preserved and most beautiful screen paintings and to uncover some of the stories behind them. Paul Hurst is a professional photographer specialising in church and cathedral architecture; Jeremy Haselock is Precentor and Vice-Dean of Norwich Cathedral, as well as being a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

This book and a large selection of titles can be found in our book department on the ground floor.
